UC Davis has launched a nationwide recruitment for Dean – Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing (Dean-SON). The Dean-SON has a solid-line reporting relationship to the Vice Chancellor-Human Health Sciences and CEO for UC Davis Health and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. The position has responsibility for resource management and sustainability of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing as well as for strategic planning, community engagement and health quality initiatives. The Dean will participate in campuswide policy development through membership on the Provost’s Leadership Council and the Council of Deans.
The Dean-SON is responsible for setting the overall vision of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. The Dean serves as the principal spokesperson for the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing to communicate the school’s vision and priorities to its faculty and staff, the UC Davis administration, the UC Office of the President, and key external communities and stakeholders, including the diverse communities directly served by the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. The Dean-SON represents UC Davis Health appropriately in health-related initiatives with state and federal agencies, foundations and other national organizations; enhances and celebrates the diversity of personnel and programs throughout UC Davis Health; and serves as lead contact with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the founding sponsor for the School of Nursing, to ensure synergy in vision.
In addition, the Dean-SON is responsible for academic and clinical program development and excellence; recruitment and retention of highly qualified faculty and support staff; external affairs and development; development and support of robust research programs likely to improve human outcomes; fiscal, capital and related business activities; and academic affairs and faculty development.
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is the sixth professional school at UC Davis, joining nationally-recognized programs in medicine, veterinary medicine, law, business and education. The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is part of UC Davis Health, an integrated, academic health system which also encompasses UC Davis School of Medicine, the 625-bed-acute-care hospital, multiple nationally-ranked research centers, and the clinical services of UC Davis Medical Center and UC Davis Medical Group provided throughout the Northern California region.
The Dean-SON must have an earned doctorate from an accredited college or university; current licensure, or license eligibility, to practice as a registered nurse in the state of California; status as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing; an exemplary track record as an innovative leader in academic nursing, education and research; at least 10 years of undergraduate and graduate nursing teaching experience, including curriculum development/implementation/evaluation experience; and the ability to enact sustainability planning through diverse revenue streams including philanthropy.
