Interim Dean, Continuing and Professional Education
Susan Catron currently oversees all of UC Davis Extension’s regional and national programs serving professional audiences, including a staff of 100 and a budget of $30 million funded by contracts, grants and fees. As chair of the Center for Human Services, Catron focuses on the Center’s strategic vision and academic plans, models for cross-disciplinary collaboration and long-term leadership structure.
In addition to a master’s degree in public policy administration and a doctorate degree in educational leadership, Catron brings to the position over two decades of experience as a higher education leader. She started her career in the nonprofit sector supervising a county-funded substance abuse program. Her career ultimately took a different direction, and she joined UC Davis Extension as a program coordinator in the early ‘90s. During her 20+ year tenure at the organization, Catron has developed and led programs in K-12 education, autism, public policy, health services, public health, business, technology and management. Catron’s professional background also includes a brief tenure as a fiscal and policy analyst in the state legislature.
For nearly 40 years, the Center for Human Services has provided education and training, consultation, research and other professional services that help human services organizations and professionals serve the needs of vulnerable children and families throughout California and across the nation. The Center delivers expertise in such practice areas as child welfare, public assistance eligibility, employment services, tribal social services, juvenile probation, developmental disabilities, behavioral health, early childhood education, adult protective services and more. In the past year, the Center has provided training and professional services to thousands of social services professionals who, collectively, serve millions of children, adults and families.
