The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is dedicated to solving real-world problems in the agricultural, environmental, and human sciences to produce a better world, healthier lives, and an improved standard of living for everyone. To advance that mission, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College, with responsibility for leading and managing the academic, research, and public service efforts of the College. The Dean is responsible for managing all College resources, including faculty and staff, physical facilities, and budget. The Dean seeks to recruit, hire, and retain a diverse student body, staff, and faculty, and is responsible for implementing the UC Davis Principles of Community and putting them into practice at the College.

The Dean participates in campuswide policy development through membership on the Council of Deans, the Provost’s Leadership Council, and on other campus committees, workgroups, and task forces. The Dean also serves on systemwide committees to coordinate research and service activities among the Davis, Berkeley, and Riverside campuses related to agricultural, environmental, social, and economic issues. The dean oversees cutting-edge research and top-ranked educational programs addressing critical issues related to agriculture and food systems, the environment, and human and social sciences.

The Dean serves as the Associate Director for the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) at UC Davis. The mission of the AES is to conduct research for the purpose of developing new knowledge and technologies that address specific problems of importance to the people of California. The Dean has responsibility for meeting this mission through the management of its resources including faculty and staff, field facilities, and dedicated budget.

The College supports 30 undergraduate majors with enrollment of more than 7,400 undergraduate students and 23 graduate programs with enrollment of more than 1,000 graduate students.

The recruitment advisory committee is led by co-chairs Mark Stetter, Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine, and Anne Todgham, Professor and Chair, Animal Science.  The committee also includes other administrators, faculty members, student and staff representatives, as well as external representation.

The national search firm Isaacson, Miller is assisting the recruitment advisory committee in identifying potential candidates for this critical position.
