Honoring Staff Choices, Collective Bargaining

Dear Campus Community,

As we return to a normal schedule today, I would like to thank each of you for your commitment to making our community a better place. Some of you chose to lend your voice to the unions striking or in sympathy of the strike, and we honor that. Others chose to report to work, which may have meant you carried more than your usual share of responsibilities, and you did it with grace and goodwill.

No matter which choice you made this week, I appreciate what you do for the university every day. As a large community, we may not always agree with one another, but we should demonstrate respect for one another at all times.

I support the collective bargaining process, and it is through that process that these issues will be resolved. I’m hopeful for a swift and amicable resolution to the UC labor dispute.

In the meantime, I would like to remind each of you of our shared goal of making our campus a safe and healthy place in which to study, live and work. We are in this together.
