Following the announcement by the California State University Board of Trustees today (Jan. 31) that Adela de la Torre, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, had been appointed as the next president of San Diego State University, UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following statement:
Every day, it seems, we learn about instances of sexual harassment and sexual violence from courageous individuals who share their experiences from years ago or from more recent times. Just last week, Time magazine named “The Silence Breakers” as its 2017 Person of the Year to recognize those women and men who have told their own stories of sexual harassment and assault. They are people who “... helped force a nationwide reckoning” and who are “voices that launched a movement.”
I am gravely disappointed in today’s White House decision to end a program that allows undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as small children to fulfill their dream of a college education without fear of deportation.
