Action: Cybersecurity Mandate for all UC Davis Faculty, Staff and Student Employees
Dear Colleagues,
Cyberattacks are on the rise – and getting more advanced every day. These threats put both the university and your personal information at risk.
That’s why the University of California launched the Cybersecurity Mandate 2025, a systemwide effort to bolster our digital defenses. Every UC campus – including UC Davis – must meet the mandate by May 28, 2025.

That’s why the University of California launched the Cybersecurity Mandate 2025, a systemwide effort to bolster our digital defenses. Every UC campus – including UC Davis – must meet the mandate by May 28, 2025.
Here’s what you need to do to stay in compliance:
- Get Trellix on all your university-owned devices. Trellix is the UC-mandated security software. It’s required on all UC devices, whether they are paid for by UC Davis or with grants. Your unit’s IT professionals can help you with installation. Trellix logs websites visited for the sake of identifying the source of a cyberattack, similar to other antivirus software programs. This is kept on the device and not sent to Trellix or the UC Davis Information Security Office.
- Use DUO multi-factor authentication (MFA) for email. Duo makes it harder for hackers to access your accounts. For more information, go to MoveToDuo.ucdavis.edu.
- Complete the mandatory cybersecurity awareness training. This training is required for all UC Davis employees – including faculty, staff, contract employees, and student workers. You’ll find it in the UC Learning Center. Supervisors: make sure your teams, including student employees, complete the course.
These steps protect not just university systems but also your own accounts, email, and files. Cybersecurity is a team effort and your part is vital.
Unit heads (vice chancellors, vice provosts, deans) are responsible for ensuring compliance across their areas. A detailed list of unit heads is available online.
For more information, visit the Cybersecurity Mandate 2025 website, review the FAQs, or reach out to your unit’s IT professional. Thanks for taking these simple but important steps to protect yourself and our Aggie community.
All the best,
