Aggie Square: Local Opportunities

UPDATED March 12, 12:10pm: The Diverse Supplier Expo has been postponed until July.  More information will be released when it is available.  For the most current scheduling information on job recruiting events, view their calendar here.

UC Davis announced its Sacramento Campus would be the site for Aggie Square in April 2018.  Since then, planning director Bob Segar and the Aggie Square team have led an ambitious community engagement campaign with roughly 60 outreach meetings to date and many more to come.

One question that comes up in virtually every meeting: How will Aggie Square provide more opportunities in the form of jobs or vendor contracts for neighbors?

While Aggie Square is still early in the planning process — construction isn’t scheduled to begin until mid-2021 — community feedback provides an opportunity to share what UC Davis is doing to address these concerns right now.

The Leadership Recruitment and Diversity Services Team at UC Davis Human Resources holds recruiting events in local neighborhoods that provide information on specific job openings and how to apply.

Five recruiting events are currently scheduled for April 2020 in Sacramento. They often take place in locations such as the Employment Development Department, the Sacramento Food Bank, The Maple Neighborhood Center and the UC Davis Sacramento campus. A full list of upcoming recruiting events can be found on the UC Davis Human Resources website.

The Leadership Recruitment and Diversity Services Team is also actively seeking organizational partners to help host and promote these events. Groups interested in having UC Davis staff give job talks or host job fairs in their community should contact Lyndon Huling at lahuling@ucdavis.edu.

Additionally, UC Davis is working to expand the number of small, woman-owned, veteran and disadvantaged business enterprises that provide goods and services to the university. Local businesses are encouraged to attend the Diverse Supplier Expo on March 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UC Davis Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) in Davis.

This event will provide an opportunity for department representatives to meet directly with diverse businesses to learn what goods and services they offer. The event will also provide an opportunity for those suppliers to learn more about how to do business with UC Davis.  Registration is required by March 20; the event is free.
